5 Common Smartphone Photography Mistakes

1. No Subject

This sounds simple, but the lack of a clear subject or something to draw the eye in will just lead to an average photo, without much interest. Be it a person, a tree, or a mountain make sure you have something to draw the eye in!

2. Poor composition

You see something cool and start immediately snapping away without much thought about how it should be taken, from which angle or distance etc. So take a minute. Composition is important and working out how the objects relate to each other is key to achieving a good photo.

3. Zoom

Zooming in on an image is one of the worst things you can do in terms of photo quality, as the more you zoom the more the pixels are reduced. Instead take the shot and then think about cropping the image so the pixels are still present, giving you more of a detailed image as well as capturing the surroundings which may end up being useful.

4. Flash

The ONLY time your flash should be used is in complete darkness when nothing is seen without the flash, otherwise it’ll create a glare to the image as well as making colours cold and unnatural… no thank you!

5. Filters

Just because they’re there doesn’t mean they need to be abused. A good photo will look good without a filter and should only be used to enhance the mood, composition or to draw attention to the main subject (see point 1!) rather than try to improve the quality of the picture.
